Dear Friends of the PRR T1 #5550,
The T1 Trust is excited to be launching the Frame Club!

It’s time for our project to enter a new phase: the engineering and construction of a welded locomotive frame for what will eventually become Pennsylvania Railroad T1 No. 5550. This will be the single biggest, most complicated, and most challenging fundraising effort yet in the 7-year history of this project.

JAKTool out of New Jersey has completed the first phase by modeling the as-built frame. FMW Solutions is conducting the engineering and stress analysis on the final design. We look forward to sharing the final design work with you and expect to be a combination of welded pieces and large castings. We feel this is the most efficient and economical approach.

This final phase of the frame engineering is expected to take up to 9 months with all the stress analysis. This means that we are likely to start cutting steel for the frame in 2022. We have identified two capable frame construction companies. Our mechanical committee members will soon meet with and interview these companies in the next couple of months to decide who is the best fit for the PRR T1 Trust.

The total design and engineering phase of the Frame will cost $140,000. We have raised through donations and in-kind contributions $115,000 to date and have $25,000 left to raise to complete engineering, with expected completion in Fall of 2022. Early estimates for the frame stand at $900,000 for completion. We have currently raised $65,000 for frame construction.

We are setting a goal to raise $200,000 by August 1, 2022, and earn pledges of another $200,000 by December 2022. This will give us a head start on fundraising for Frame construction so we can start cutting steel this year!

We need your help to meet these goals. No one person is funding this project, but rather thousands of railroad fans just like yourself. Contributions can be made in any amount. You can set pledges up on a monthly recurring charge for whatever best suits your preference. For example, $250 for 10 months will become a $2,500 donation!

All contributions over $1000 will receive all the benefits of the founders club. Contributions over $25,000 will get their name engraved in the frame Contributions over $50,000 will receive their name engraved in the frame as well as a cast Bronze #5550 Number Plate.

We look forward to making this huge milestone with your help!

Brad
