SPRING 2019

With Avengers coming to an end and summer travel plans drawing ever closer, The T1 Trust has emerged from winter with exciting news about the next chapter in the saga of America’s newest mainline steam locomotive.

Front Tube Sheet Assembly Ordered

The PRR T1 Trust boiler engineering team lead by Wolf Fengler, continues to engineer the remainder of the boiler and firebox to meet and exceed current ASME standards. The T1 Trust Engineering Committee also includes Gary Bensman, Dave Griner, Scott McGill, Robert Franzen and Jason Johnson.

On March 24, 2019 the order was placed with Continental Fabricators of St. Louis, Missouri for another critical part of 5550’s boiler; the front tube sheet.  Capable of withstanding over 300 PSI of pressure, the front tube sheet for PRR T1 #5550 is an incredibly complicated piece of engineering. With an estimated weight of 3,000 pounds, the sheet also includes the dry pipe flange and twenty stabilizing brackets. The cost of the front tube sheet assembly is $33,270.

The T1 Trust Presents at Annual PRRT&HS Meeting

On May 17th and 18th, The Trust attended the annual meeting of the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical and Historical Society and gave a full update on the progress on 5550.
